Colo. jail uses grant to contract new medical provider

The new service will be bolstered by a grant-funded mental health program that will have a new staff member helping inmates with mental health and opioid addiction

FREMONT COUNTY, Colo. — [Sheriff Allen Cooper] said his department and the Fremont County Commissioners opted to contract with a new medical provider — Turn Key Health — after the current medical provider NatCore was unable to keep up with the demand of staffing the jail during the coronavirus pandemic.

The new medical service will be bolstered by a grant-funded mental health program that will have a new staff member helping inmates with mental health and opioid addiction issues.

"We will have a treatment program within the facility to try to wean these inmates off of opioids and hook them up with outside providers to help keep them off of drugs" when they leave the jail, Cooper said.
