SARASOTA COUNTY, Fla. — The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office has received a $225,000 grant to support efforts to reduce recidivism and barriers inmates face when preparing to re-enter society.

During the past several years, the Sheriff's Office created one of the first addiction recovery pods in the state as part of efforts to reduce recidivism rates. The agency now offers more than 50 programs, including mental health services and veteran support for inmates.

“Not only are we protecting our community, but we are also changing lives by creating successful outcomes for men and women who otherwise have no access to resources or support of any kind,” said Sheriff Kurt Hoffman. “This is a community effort, and reducing recidivism is not something we can tackle on our own.”
