Restoration work on the limestone walls of the 1834 Herkimer County Jail in Herkimer is scheduled to start this spring.
The Friends of Historic Herkimer County group was previously awarded a $239,500 state grant, but must contribute $80,800 to cover its share, said Katie Nichols, who heads the group.
With the project moving along, the Friends of Historic Herkimer County — formed in 2004 to save the jail — is raising money to cover the costs.
